Corrosion Resistant SUS630 Stainless Steel Rod

Product Description
Type 630 Stainless Steel Rod (17-4PH Stainless Steel)

17-4 Precipitation Hardening (Type 630) is a chromium-copper precipitation hardening stainless steel designed for applications requiring high strength and moderate corrosion resistance. This alloy maintains high strength up to approximately 600°F (316°C).

Material Overview

Alloy 17-4 PH is a precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel with copper and niobium additions. This grade combines exceptional strength, hardness (maintained up to 572°F/300°C), and corrosion resistance. Mechanical properties can be optimized through heat treatment, achieving very high yield strength up to 1100-1300 MPa (160-190 ksi).

Important Note: This grade should not be used at temperatures above 572°F (300°C) or at very low temperatures. It provides adequate resistance to atmospheric corrosion and diluted acids or salts, with corrosion resistance equivalent to Alloy 304 or 430.

Fabrication & Processing

Welding: Grade 630 can be welded using all conventional methods without pre-heating. Careful design is required to prevent weldment stresses in high-strength applications.

Machining: Best performed in solution-treated condition, with machining rates similar to grade 304 stainless steel.

Typical Applications
  • Engine components
  • High-strength boat propeller shafts
  • Plastic molding dies
  • Valves and gears
  • Aerospace turbine blades
  • Nuclear waste containment
