Product Description
Nickel Alloy 20 Sheet and Plate
ASTM A240 UNS N08020 Plate 0.6 - 20.0mm Laser Cutting SS Sheet
Alloy 20, also known as Carpenter 20, is a nickel-iron-chromium austenitic alloy developed for maximum resistance to acid attack, particularly sulfuric acid. This superalloy offers excellent resistance to general corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion in chemicals containing chlorides and sulfuric, phosphoric, and nitric acids. It contains niobium for stabilization against sensitization and resultant intergranular corrosion.
Originally designed for sulfuric acid applications, Alloy 20 is now widely used across chemical, food, pharmaceutical, and plastics industries. It is commonly employed in heat exchangers, mixing tanks, metal cleaning and pickling equipment, and piping systems. Carpenter 20 combines exceptional corrosion resistance with elevated mechanical properties and relatively easy fabrication.
There is ongoing debate about whether Carpenter 20 is classified as stainless steel or a nickel alloy due to its nickel content being on the border between classifications. Regardless of classification, it remains highly effective for corrosion resistance applications.
