Cold Rolled 254SMo Stainless Steel Plate

Product Description
254SMo Chemical Composition 254SMo Rolled Alloys Plate
254SMo is an austenitic stainless steel specifically developed for use in halide-containing environments such as seawater. This steel demonstrates superior performance particularly in halide-containing acids and offers excellent resistance to uniform corrosion. With carbon content below 0.02%, it qualifies as a pure austenitic stainless steel, and when carbon content is under 0.01%, it can be classified as a super austenitic stainless steel.
Features of Inox 254SMo
Super stainless steel represents a specialized category of stainless steel distinguished from conventional types. As a high-alloy stainless steel containing elevated levels of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum, the most prominent example is 254SMo with 6% molybdenum content. The high molybdenum concentration provides exceptional local corrosion resistance, along with superior resistance to pitting corrosion (PI ≥ 40) and stress corrosion in demanding conditions including seawater, aeration, gaps, and low-speed scouring. This makes 254SMo an excellent alternative to nickel-based alloys and titanium alloys.
Furthermore, 254SMo exhibits outstanding high-temperature resistance and corrosion resistance capabilities that surpass those of 304 stainless steel. From a metallurgical perspective, special stainless steels like 254SMo maintain a stable austenitic microstructure.
Extensive field testing and practical experience confirm that 254SMo maintains high crevice corrosion resistance in seawater, even at elevated temperatures—a characteristic shared by only a few stainless steel types. In acidic solutions and oxidizing halide solutions used in paper bleaching applications, 254SMo demonstrates corrosion resistance comparable to the most resistant nickel-based alloys and titanium alloys.
The high nitrogen content in 254SMo provides enhanced mechanical strength compared to other austenitic stainless steels. Additionally, 254SMo offers high ductility, impact strength, and excellent weldability. The elevated molybdenum content results in higher oxidation rates during annealing, producing a slightly rougher surface after pickling compared to conventional stainless steels, though this does not compromise the material's corrosion resistance.
