Product Description
S31254 Plate UNS 254SMO Plate
Alloy SMO 254 Stainless Steel plate, also known as 254 SMO plate or SMO 254 alloy, is a premium super austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content. This high-performance alloy is enhanced with molybdenum and nitrogen, delivering exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and corrosion fatigue. With strength nearly double that of 300 series stainless steel, Alloy 254 SMO maintains high ductility and impact strength while providing superior uniform corrosion resistance.
Key Features
  • Outstanding resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion
  • Excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance
  • Superior corrosion fatigue performance
  • Substantially stronger than 300 series stainless steel
  • High ductility and impact strength
  • Low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation risk
Applications
Due to its high molybdenum and nickel content, Alloy 254 SMO is ideal for high chloride environments including:
  • Petroleum production equipment
  • Saltwater handling systems
  • Food and chemical processing equipment
  • Pulp mill bleach systems
  • Flue gas desulphurization scrubbers
  • Tall oil distillation columns
  • Offshore oil & gas production equipment
  • Desalination equipment
Material Standards
ASTM/ASME: UNS S31254
EURONORM: FeMi35Cr20Cu4Mo2
DIN: 2.4660
Corrosion Resistance Properties
  • Excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion due to high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content
  • Very low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation risk during heating
  • Superior resistance in chloride-containing waters, making it suitable for prolonged seawater exposure without crevice corrosion
