ASTM S40900 409/409L Stainless Steel Pipe for Automotive Exhaust Systems
Stainless steel grade 409L is a chromium, titanium-stabilized ferritic stainless steel specifically designed for automotive exhaust systems. With 11% chromium content—the minimum required for forming the protective passive surface film—this alloy offers excellent corrosion resistance, medium strength, good formability, and cost-effectiveness.
Grade 409L provides superior corrosion resistance compared to carbon steel and serves as an economical alternative in moderately corrosive environments where mechanical properties and high-temperature oxidation resistance are prioritized over appearance.
