2205 Duplex Stainless Steel Characteristics
Alloy 2205 (UNS S32305/S31803) is a duplex stainless steel composed of 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum and 5-6% nickel-nitrogen alloy. It offers high strength, excellent impact toughness, and superior overall and local stress corrosion resistance.
Compared with 316L and 317L austenitic stainless steel, 2205 alloy provides superior pitting and crevice corrosion resistance. It features high corrosion resistance, lower thermal expansion coefficient, and higher thermal conductivity than austenitic stainless steels.
The compressive strength of 2205 is twice that of austenitic stainless steel, allowing designers to reduce weight while maintaining performance, resulting in cost-effective solutions compared to 316 and 317L.
