Corrosion Resistant Cold Rolled Stainless Steel Sheet

Product Description
ASTM A240 2B 316L Stainless Steel Sheet
Type 316 Austenitic Stainless Steel Sheets are premium-grade materials designed for applications requiring superior corrosion resistance. The addition of molybdenum enhances protection against chloride environments, making these sheets ideal for marine, chemical processing, and pharmaceutical applications.
Product Overview
316/316L Stainless Steel Sheet is widely used where superior corrosion resistance is essential. This grade performs exceptionally well in marine environments, highly acidic conditions, underwater equipment, surgical tools, and food/pharmaceutical applications. The molybdenum content provides enhanced corrosion resistance compared to standard 304 grade stainless steel.
Available Forms: Sheet, Plate, Coil, Strip, Wire, Pipe, Tube, Bar, Profile, Round, Flat, Square, Hexagonal

Technical Characteristics
Corrosion Resistance
Types 316 and 316L stainless steels provide improved chloride corrosion resistance compared to Type 304 due to molybdenum content. They offer excellent protection in marine atmospheres and resistance to chemicals used in paper, petroleum, food, and dairy industries. Suitable for sulfuric acid environments below 5% concentration up to 150°F (60°C).
Heat Treatment
Annealing: Heat to 1900-2100°F (1038-1149°C), then rapidly quench.
Cold Working & Formability
These grades work harden at a lower rate than Type 304. In annealed condition, they exhibit excellent ductility for roll forming, deep drawing, and bending. Annealing restores ductility and lowers hardness for subsequent forming operations.
Weldability
Austenitic stainless steels are generally weldable using common fusion and resistance techniques. Type 316/316L requires slower arc welding speeds and careful procedures to avoid hot cracking. Recommended filler materials include AWS E/ER 316L and 16-8-2.
