Product Description
444 Stainless Steel Alloy Sheet
SUS444 stainless steel sheet, also known as AISI 444 or EN 1.4521, is a dual-stabilized ferritic stainless steel containing 2% molybdenum. This alloy offers excellent corrosion resistance comparable to austenitic grades 4401/4404, with higher strength values due to molybdenum content.
Material Specifications
Grade 1.4521 is equivalent to European code 1.4521 and American standard ASTM 444. Stabilization with titanium and niobium creates a fully stabilized microstructure, improving surface properties and achieving elongation to fracture values up to 30% (A80).
Key Applications
  • Heat exchangers, boilers, and water heaters
  • Stainless steel water tanks and drinking water systems
  • Food processing, brewery and wine making equipment
  • Solar water heaters
  • Automotive components
  • Pipes for tap water and drinking-water environments
Corrosion Resistance
As a molybdenum-alloyed ferritic steel, grade 1.4521 offers localized corrosion resistance close to grade 1.4404/AISI 316. The nickel-free ferritic structure provides excellent resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.
Formability Characteristics
Excellent cold-forming capability with particular suitability for deep drawing. Lower work hardening rate compared to standard austenitic grades makes it less suitable for stretch forming but easier for cold forming and machining. Minimal susceptibility to "ridging and roping" surface defects.
Welding Properties
Low carbon and nitrogen content with titanium and niobium stabilization reduces sensitization and martensite formation. Grain growth in the heat-affected zone requires minimal heat input. Austenitic fillers are typically used for welding.
