Product Overview
SUS444 stainless steel sheet, also known as AISI 444 or EN 1.4521, is a dual stabilized ferritic stainless steel containing 2% molybdenum. This grade offers excellent corrosion resistance comparable to austenitic grades 4401/4404 in various applications.
Key Features
  • Molybdenum alloying with 18% chromium content for superior corrosion resistance
  • Dual stabilization with titanium and niobium for improved microstructure
  • Higher strength values compared to grade 1.4509
  • Excellent elongation to fracture values up to 30% (A80)
  • Approved for drinking water applications by German (DVGW) and Swiss (SVGW) authorities

Material Characteristics
Corrosion Resistance
Grade 1.4521 provides pitting and crevice corrosion resistance superior to most ferritic stainless steels, with performance close to grade 1.4404/AISI 316 austenitic steel. The nickel-free ferritic structure provides excellent resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.
Formability
1.4521 can be readily cold-formed by all standard processes and is particularly suitable for deep drawing. The deep drawability is comparable to deep drawing quality carbon steels. The material has lower work hardening rate than standard austenitic grades, making it less suitable for stretch forming applications.
Welding
With low C and N contents and dual stabilization, 1.4521 offers better weldability than many ferritic steels. Grain growth in the HAZ must be controlled by minimizing heat input. Austenitic fillers are typically used for welding.
